With an estimated investment of VND100 trillion (US$4.3 billion), the line is scheduled to pass through eight cities and provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Haiphong.
Under a general plan for developing Vietnam's railway transport system until 2020 with a vision to 2030, the railway was designed to have a total length of 380 kilometers.
However, according to the consulting firm’s plan for the project, the railway will be 392 kilometers long with 38 stations.
The Ministry of Transport has worked with the localities where the railway will pass through to determine the coordinates of the railway and positions of stations.
After the consulting firm completes the feasibility study for the project, the Vietnam Railway Authority will refer to the study results to complete the plan for the country’s railway system by 2030 with a vision toward 2050 and submit it to the prime minister for approval, in line with the Planning Law.
The Ministry of Transport confirmed that it will make preparations to develop the project in line with the law based on the approved plan, priority order of projects and the ability to mobilize capital. The project will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval. SGT
