The Ministry informed the government of Pingxiang Province (China) of the decision yesterday.

Earlier, the government of Pingxiang Province had asked for Vietnamese licenses for 1,000 cars for about 1,500 Chinese tourists travelling to Vietnam and transiting to ASEAN countries, on the occasion of the Vietnam - China trade fair this December.

The 1,000 vehicles will be divided into groups, including the trans-Vietnam groups from Lang Son to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City, or transit to Laos and Cambodia.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Deputy Director of the Transport Department under the Ministry of Transport, said the proposal had been sent directly to the Ministry of Transport so this agency had to consult with the relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

"In the perspective of tourism development, the Ministry of Transport supports this idea but the large number of cars may be a problem with other ministries,” Thuy said.

The Ministry of Transport had received a written reply from the Ministry of Defense, which did not agree with the proposal, saying the number of caravans is too large.

Thuy said on December 14 that the Ministry of Transport would summarize the opinions of related bodies and answer the Chinese party this week.
