As of mid-May, Vietnam had spent US$725.6 million on importing vegetables and fruits, mainly from China and the United States, according to the General Department of Customs.
Vietnam is a big exporter of fruits to China but its imports of Chinese fruit have also increased sharply every year.
As local consumers express their concern over the quality of imported apples and pears, particularly Chinese products, the Ministry of Agriculture has decided to implement all possible measures to monitor the quality of the fruits.
VietNamNet Bridge – The National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (Nafiqad) said local competent agencies have found higher-than-permitted insecticide residue rates in 17 batches of vegetables and fruits imported from China.
Over 10 tons of Australian dirty beef imports have penetrated the domestic market. Chinese grapes have been selling as Ninh Thuan brand grapes. Consumers have been told to become smarter, or they would buy dirty food.
