VietNamNet Bridge - On May 27, the Bureau of Food Safety and Hygiene released official information about the test results of ginger, dry vermicelli (in Hanoi) and lemon tea (in HCM City). The test results show that these products are safe.
The agency collected seven samples of lemon tea in a number of districts in HCM City for testing. All the samples did not contain heavy metals (Pb, Hg, As, Cd), industrial colorants and sweeteners (Cyclamate).
According to the Bureau of Food Safety and Hygiene, the Hanoi Food Safety and Hygiene Department also tested seven samples of dry vermicelli produced at some private vermicelli enterprises in Hoai Duc and Thanh Oai districts of Hanoi.
Monitoring results show that the samples did not have alkaline food coloring and borax. The iron content is also below the prescribed limits.
For food coloring and food additives, a total of five samples were tested and the test results are negative for alkaline food coloring.
The Bureau of Food Safety and Hygiene collected ginger samples from ten big markets in Hanoi and HCM City to check for food safety.
Results found one out of 50 samples had aldicarb residue of 0.06 ppm, higher than the provisions of Codex (0.02 ppm), the EU and Japan (0.05 ppm). This sample was taken at the market of Binh Dien, Ho Chi Minh City.
The bureau also tested five samples of Chinese ginger and all of them are proven to not contain aldicarb residue.
Earlier, these products were rumored to contain toxic preservatives.
