The police agency is detaining Feng, director of Binh Minh Wood Production and Trading Company Limited, to investigate violations of labour safety regulations committed at the factory.
The director was found irresponsible for checking and managing the boiler quality, leading to the deadly explosion on May 1.
Preliminary reports show one day before the workplace incident, the company discovered a technical problem and contacted the equipment supplier to check and repair the boiler.
On May 1 morning, when the company’s technical staff came in to check and operate the boiler, it suddenly exploded, killing 6 and injuring 5 others. The factory was also severely damaged.
According to regulations, equipment such as boilers must undergo strict inspection requirements before use. Businesses are required to declare, inspect and submit the document to authorities before operating the boiler, but Binh Minh Wood Production and Trading Company did not comply with these regulations.
