VietNamNet Bridge – While working on the scaffolding at the construction site of the Tan Rai bauxite plant in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, a Chinese worker lost his footing, felt off the scaffolding and died immediately.

Nguyen Thanh Liem, chief of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group’s (Vinacomin) Aluminum and Titanium, the investor of bauxite mining projects, said that the victim is Liu Hai Ua, 25. The accident occurred at noon of October 30.
The victim was brought to HCM City’s Cho Ray hospital. Relevant agencies are performing formalities to take the body back to China.
Vinacomin’s Deputy General Director Duong Van Hoa went to Lam Dong to solve the case.
Hoa said his group had an urgent meeting with Chinese contractors to address the issue of labor safety.
The Tan Rai bauxite project was kicked off in 2008, with investment capital of nearly 12 trillion dong. The plant is scheduled to start operating in early 2011, with annual processing capacity of 650,000 tons of alumina.
