Chu Lai has become an important link in the supply chain of the central key economic zone.

Located in a strategic location, seamlessly connected to arterial roads of the transport infrastructure system in Quang Nam province and the Central region, Chu Lai port has great advantages in inter-regional and regional connectivity, including the 2-kilometer horizontal connection with National Highway 1, Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway, coastal road (connecting Da Nang, Hoi An and Chu Lai airport) and Ho Chi Minh Road; and vertical connections (National Highway 14E, National Highway 14B, National Highway 14D).

These routes have high traffic because they are located on a backbone route that can  transport goods from Laos' southern provinces and the Bo Y international border gate (Kon Tum province), and Nam Giang international border gate. This port is an important gateway, ensuring intra-regional and inter-regional connections along coastal roads and the East-West economic corridor.

Under the Quang Nam’s development strategy in 2021-2030, the province will gather strength to develop aviation, seaports and logistics.

In the maritime sector, the province will open the new Cua Lo passage that connects with neighboring harbor areas in association with non-tariff areas, industrial zones, airports and railway stations. It will also form a large logistics center. In such conditions, Chu Lai will grow strongly as it has been positioned as a seaport-container logistics center of the central region and Central Highlands.

The central region is also considered a center of outsourcing and manufacturing industries for export (textile and garment, footwear, wooden furniture and interior decoration, metals), and other key industries (farm produce processing, heavy industries, oil and gas and energy).

There are many industrial zones in the central region, including THACO Chu Lai, Bac Chu Lai, Tam Thang (Quang Nam), VSIP and Dung Quat in Quang Ngai.

Currently, exports from the Central Highlands and Southern Laos are carried via the Nam Giang International Border Gate (Quang Nam) and Bo Y (Kon Tum) and the northeastern part of Cambodia via Le Thanh Border Gate (Gia Lai) and are transported to Chu Lai Port by land, from which they are shipped to Northeastern Asian countries, Europe and America, and vice versa.

ChuLai Port CEO Phan Van Ky said the port has provided more services and strengthened connections with international shipping lines to diversify maritime routes to Northeast Asia, America and Canada.

Chu Lai is the central point of the multi-modal logistics chain, including land transportation, seaports and maritime transport, thus creating important connections that help Vietnam’s businesses optimize profits and improve competitiveness.

THILOGI, the owner of Chu Lai Port, has registered and been admitted to the US government's Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), becoming an intermediary carrier on the Vietnam-US trade route.
