
The elephant of the Vietnam Circus Troupe was tied at the yard of Lao Cai province’s Meeting Hall from October 6, to wait for the show that took place 8pm. The circus troupe scheduled to have the last show on October 26.
At around 3pm, October 16, Nguyen Thao Oanh, 11, a sixth grader from Le Quy Don Junior Secondary School in Lao Cai city, was taken to the Lao Cai Meeting Hall by her parents to see the elephant.
While giving a piece of sugarcane to the elephant, the animal unexpectedly raised the girl by its trunk, threw her to the ground and trampled her. The little gird died on the spot.
At the site, under the elephant’s feet was a pool of blood and the pair of sandals of the victim. The elephant was only chained, without any fence or guard. Local people freely fed the animal. Many people took their children to see and feed the elephant recent days.
The local authorities are investigation the case.
