As the world rapidly shifts toward artificial intelligence (AI), CMC, one of Vietnam's leading tech conglomerates, is positioning itself at the forefront of this revolution.

On September 11, CMC launched its AI-X Strategy in Hanoi, followed by an international debut in Japan on September 18, marking the company’s first global unveiling of this ambitious initiative.

CMC’s Chairman and CEO, Nguyen Trung Chinh, shared insights into the strategy and the challenges of being a pioneer in the AI space.

Committed to becoming an AI-centric business

CMC’s AI-X Strategy carries the slogan “Enable your AI-X,” a concept that is still novel in both Vietnam and the world. What does this strategy focus on?

Chinh explained that CMC aims to be a leader in the AI wave, aligning with Vietnam’s national digital transformation mission. With over 31 years of experience, the company has become a pioneer in AI, chip design, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.

CMC’s transformation strategy emphasizes building an AI-driven internal culture, creating a modern work environment, and developing a highly skilled workforce, enabling the company to deliver cutting-edge solutions, enhance performance, and optimize business processes. These innovations will serve both domestic and international markets.

As the leader of CMC’s AI transformation, Chinh acknowledged the inherent challenges of being a pioneer.

“Being at the forefront of a technological revolution requires not just vision but also a wide range of skills across the entire organization. Without the right direction, even the most skilled leaders could steer the company off course,” he said.

Thanks to its comprehensive digital transformation efforts initiated in 2017, CMC has built a solid foundation for its AI journey. The company has gained insights from collaborating with major global players like Microsoft, and now feels confident in leading the AI transformation, not only within its own operations but also in assisting other businesses.

CMC’s AI-X Strategy is built on three core technologies: computer vision, natural language processing, and speech processing. The company currently holds more than 20 proprietary AI technologies, with its CIVAMS product ranked 12th globally by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Expanding AI to Japan: a key market

Japan plays a crucial role in CMC’s AI-X Strategy, marking the first international market where the company is officially introducing this initiative.

CMC, through its subsidiary CMC Japan, plans to expand its operations and open a new office after seven years in the Japanese market.

By 2028, the company aims to become a global digital powerhouse with a projected $1 billion in revenue and 15,000 employees.

In Japan, CMC expects to employ 5,000 people, with 1,000 directly involved in the Japanese market, and AI technologies accounting for 50% of its revenue.

What AI transformation (AI-X) means

AI-X represents the comprehensive application of AI to transform the way operations and interactions occur across all areas of society - governments, businesses, and individuals alike.

The goal is to harness AI’s vast potential to innovate, improve performance and productivity, and create a digital economy while upholding ethical and responsible standards. CMC envisions AI-X as a means to enhance the quality of life and promote green, sustainable development.

As CMC embarks on this transformative journey, it is not only shaping its future but also leading the way for other businesses to embrace AI-driven change.

With CMC’s ambitious plans and commitment to AI, it stands poised to lead Vietnam and other countries into the next era of digital transformation. The challenges of pioneering are undeniable, but CMC’s strategy offers a roadmap for how technology can be harnessed to drive growth and innovation on a global scale.
