He made the statement while receiving Slovakia's Minister of Economy and Construction Juraj Miskov in Ha Noi yesterday, April 14.

Bilateral long-term friendship between both countries would bring favourable conditions for businesses to enhance mutual co-operation in the fields of economy, trade and investment, Triet said.

He urged the two countries to boost exchange visits and turn the co-operative policies into specific actions, adding that many other fields also had the potential for greater ties. Triet also expressed his pleasure over the improvement of the bilateral relations in the past few years, and thanked the country for supporting Viet Nam on the anti-dumping lawsuit on its footwear in European market.

The Slovak guest said his visit, accompanied by many large enterprises, proved the country's interest in co-operating on economics, trade and investment with Viet Nam.

He stressed that Viet Nam would be the main gateway for Slovakia to access ASEAN markets while Slovakia would play the role as a bridge to connect Viet Nam with European Union markets.

He said the two countries had mutual interest in economic growth and social welfare, and bilateral assistance would help the two countries' development.

On the same day, Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh received visiting Slovakian Minister of Economy and Construction Juraj Miskov.

During talks, Minister Thanh underlined the time-honoured relations between Viet Nam and Slovakia, saying the army and people of Viet Nam would forever remember the valuable support of the Slovakian army and people during the country's cause of national liberation and construction.

Viet Nam attaches importance to co-operative relations with Slovakia in numerous areas, including co-operation in the national defence-based economy, said Thanh, expressing his hope that the visit by the Slovakian Minister would contribute to stepping up the two countries' co-operation in the sector.

He also stressed the need for the two countries' armies to carry out exchanges of delegations at different levels to better promote co-operation opportunities in training technicians.

For his part, Minister Juraj Miskov said Slovakian defence businesses wanted to work with Vietnamese partners in producing technical equipment to serve national defence, natural disasters control, road and bridge building and other areas of mutual concern.
