VietNamNet Bridge – Yesterday, October 8, the ship in distress Bright Royal of Panama was rescued and towed to Khanh Hoa for repair.
Panama ship drifts to Binh Dinh
CSB 9002, one of the two rescue ships that towed the foreign vessel to Khanh Hoa.
The ship was leaking oil and drifting in the sea of Binh Dinh province when it was rescued by the coast guard forces of Quang Ngai province.
The rescue team with over 20 members, led by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Tuan, approached the Bright Royal drifting ship yesterday morning. The foreign ship was towed to the port of Khanh Hoa for repair by two Vietnamese ships, including An Hai 27 and CSB 9002.
According to an officer on board the An Hai 27 ship, at 9am on October 8, the Bright Royal was towed to the waters of Dai Lanh commune, Van Ninh district of Khanh Hoa province. This ship will be towing to the Hyundai Vinashin shipping yard in Ninh Phuoc Commune, Ninh Hoa district of Khanh Hoa today.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tan, Director of the Environmental Protection Department of Quang Ngai Province, the owner of Bright Royal have not submitted any plan to deal with oil spills in the waters of Quang Ngai, caused by their ship.
"We have asked the assistance of the Oil Spill Rescue Center of the central region to handle the oil spill in Quang Ngai," Tan said.
On October 7, Bright Royal drifted to Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. The local authorities immediately took measures against oil spills.
The owner of Bright Royal and lawyers have contacted with the Border Guard Commands of Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh to get information about the drifting ship.
