She introduced her collection Tho (Longevity) inspired by traditional patterns and old scripts in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

In this collection, Thuy used tafta, silk, organza and brocade. Each jacket is hand-made with its own unique style. Through this collection, the designer sends her wishes of good fortune.

Thuy has been known for years as a designer of padded jackets. She has attempted to update the traditional attire, making them contemporary and high-quality.

In the previous century, padded jackets were familiar to Hanoians. Everyone, man or woman, young or old, owned a padded jacket for winter. While rich people wore expensive coats made from velvet, silk and brocade, the poor often used the same worn jacket year after year.

For Thuy, padded jackets are more than fashion, they contain nostalgia and memories. The coats remind many people of the past, and evoke memories of beloved mothers and grandmothers wearing them.

The exhibition will run until January 12 at the Ha Noi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre, 50 Dao Duy Tu Street, Hanoi.

During the event, the designer will share with visitors the process of making a padded jacket and how to mix the jacket with other clothes and accessories.
