VietNamNet Bridge – On February 24, Colonel Duong Tu Trong (Deputy chief of the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Security, the Ministry of Public Security, former deputy director of Hai Phong City Police Agency), was arrested for investigation related to his help to his elder brother Duong Chi Dung (former director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration) flee.

Colonel Duong Tu Trong was arrest for "organizing for others to flee abroad," according to Article 275 of the Criminal Code.

The same day, the investigation agency examined Trong’s workplace and place of residence in Hanoi. At the same time, the Ministry of Public Security decided to strip police registration of Trong.

The investigation agency determined that Colonel Duong Tu Trong is an important link in the ring that helped former director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration Duong Chi Dung flee. At the time Chi Dung fled, Colonel Duong Tu Trong was the Deputy Director, head of the police investigation of Hai Phong City Police Agency.

Several months later, Trong was promoted to the position Deputy Director of the Police Department for Administration on Social Security in Hanoi. The prosecution of Colonel Trong will help the agency to clarify a number of questions related to a number of officials involved in helping Dung’s escape.

Who is Colonel Duong Tu Trong?

The arrest of Colonel Duong Tu Trong has stirred public opinion in Hai Phong, although after Duong Chi Dung fled, there was much speculation that Trong would soon be arrested.

Trong is the younger brother of Duong Chi Dung, and is the second son in a family with five children. Trong was born in Hai Duong and raised in Hai Phong in a family with revolutionary tradition. Many family members are officers.

After graduating from the University of Technology, Hanoi, Trong joined the police force in Hai Phong city, starting from a policeman of Le Chan district.

The people of Hai Phong are very familiar to the name Duong Tu Trong, because he was an excellent investigator. As the Chief of the Criminal Police and then Deputy Director of Hai Phong Police Agency, Trong directed many projects to attack gangs in Hai Phong.

Trong is also known as an art enthusiast. He composed poetry music and his works have been published in several newspapers and magazines.

Eight people were arrested and hunted

Related to the ring that helped Duong Chi Dung’s escape, so far the police have prosecuted, arrested and released arrest warrants for a total of 8 people.

Of these, six are police officers in Hai Phong, include: Colonel Duong Tu Trong, Colonel Vu Tien Son (47 years old, Deputy Head of the Criminal Police Department), Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Thang (43 years old, a captain under the Environmental Police Department), Lieutenant Nguyen Trong Anh (officer of the Criminal Police Department), Vu Van Sau (44 years old, police chief of An Tho commune, An Lao district) and Pham Dinh Nghien (43 years old, vice chief police of An Tho commune).

The two remaining people are Ha Trong Tuan (48, a resident in Hai Phong) who was arrested for making fake documents for Dung and Dong Xuan Phong (former staff of Hai Phong Customs Department) who is being hunted.

In another incident, Duong Chi Dung’s brother-in-law - Colonel Nguyen Binh Kien (Deputy Director of Hai Phong City Police) was expelled from the Party because of serious violations of the provisions of the police sector and personal liberty of citizens.
