The annual Chem Temple Festival in Chem Village, Hanoi, was held on June 27-29 to remember Ly Ong Trong, a mythic warrior during legendary Hung Kings dynasty.

The water procession started at 8 am on June 27 from Chem Temple with over 100 participants. Leading the group are the dragon dancers and drum and gong team. The statues of Ly Ong Trong and his wife were carried by young men wearing skirt-type garments.

Hoang from Thuy Phuong Ward said, "I'm honoured to be chosen. I've trained for over a month to be able to fulfill my role."

The procession arrived at Ngu Dock where a play about Ly Ong Trong's battles was shown and statue washing ritual was carried out. The boat travelled through three villages of Chem, Hoang Xa and Hoang Lien before returning and circling three times in front of Chem Temple.

Nguyen Thi Binh, head of the organisation board, said, "This year, over 1,000 people attended the festival which will be held for 10 days."

Chem Temple Festival was recognised as national intangible heritage in 2016 and next year, it was recognised as special national heritage.
