VietNamNet Bridge – Retailers have expected the computer market to recover in the third quarter of this year as demand has increased in the back-to-school season.
Hoang Ngoc Vy, general director of retail chain Vien Thong A, said that the computer demand had declined against previous years because of local consumers tightening their purse string. However, buying power has increased again since late August as students have come back to school after the summer holiday.
In addition, many producers have launched new products to serve student demands in the season, making prices of old-fashioned computers go down.
Some retailers such as Dienmay.com, Phong Vu, Hoan Long and Nguyen Kim have seen positive growths in computer sales.
Dinh Anh Huan, general director of Dienmay.com, said that its computer sales in August surged by 80% compared to previous months. However, Dinh declined to give exact sale numbers.
Statistics showed that nearly 80% of buyers were students who purchased laptops at VND8-10 million each. Meanwhile, high-school pupils mostly bought tablets priced at VND3-5 million each.
Given higher demand, many retailers have launched discount and promotional programs or cooperated with banks to provide loans for customers.
Dienmay.com has slashed prices of all laptops of many brands such as Dell, Sony and HP. Customers of the retail chain are able to test products and return or change products within 10 days.
Nguyen Kim shopping center has launched a preferential sale of HP, Toshiba, Acer, Asus and Sony Vaio computers, giving customers gifts worth VND2 million. The program will run till September 8.
The retailers have cooperated with HSBC, VietinBank, ANZ and Sacombank to launch interest-free installment payment for buyers.
Vien Thong A has joined hands with Dell to give accessories to buyers until September 7. The program is expected to fuel consumption after many gloomy months, Vy said.
