The signing ceremony saw the participation of Hoang Anh Gia Lai boss Doan Nguyen Duc alongside representatives from Sint-Truidense FC.
During the event, Sint-Truidense FC representatives presented Phuong with the number 15 shirt that he will wear next season.
Explaining their reasons for signing Phuong, a club representative said it was partially based on the rapid growth currently underway in Asian football with Vietnam leading the way in that development.
He added that the club will create favourable conditions for Phuong to display his talent.
Upon addressing the ceremony, Phuong expressed his hope that he will be able to adapt to the new environment and prove himself to the club after enduring several failures in his previous experience at overseas clubs.
The Vietnamese forward believes that he will definitely succeed in Belgium.
Originally founded in 1924, Sint-Truiden Club were purchased by Japanese company DMM.com in 2017. During the 2018-19 season, Sint-Truidense recruited five Japanese players including Takehiro Tomiyasu, Wataru Endo, Takahiro Sekine Kosuke Kinoshita, Daichi Kamada, and goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt.
The team play their football in the Belgium top flight, the Jupiler Pro League. Last season the side finished seventh in the 16-team league with 47 points from 30 games. They finished just two points off the top six teams who go on to compete in play-offs for the championship title.
According to website Transfermarkt, the estimated market value of the club is approximately EUR27.5 million.
