| Cong Vinh is considered scapegoat for the failure of Vietnam in the AFF Cup. |
This is an unexpected decision because just a few days ago, the VFF confirmed that Cong Vinh was not convened to the national team because of poor performance and not playing for any football club at this moment.
That was the VFF’s explanation but many people said that the VFF did not call up Cong Vinh because the striker is on the "black list" at the AFF Cup 2012.
At the meeting held to consider the Vietnamese national team’s failure at the AFF Cup 2012, VFF Vice President Le Hung Dung affirmed that the team had a group of players who did not play positively. VFF did not identify these players but Dung said these players would not be convened in the next gathering of the national squad. Dung stressed that the VFF would punish these players very heavily, specifically banning them from the national team forever.
Therefore, in the list released the last few days, which did not have the name of Cong Vinh, many people thought that this player was in the VFF’s black list.
However, on January 6, VFF Vice President Nguyen Lan Trung said, the list of 50 players registered to the organizers of the Asian Cup 2015 qualifier has Cong Vinh.
A VFF leader said Cong Vinh was added to the list because the VFF was worried of “missing” a good player. However, according to this official, it does not mean that Cong Vinh will be called up to the national team’s gathering on January 23. “It is up to the coach,” he said.
Earlier, the VFF also confirmed that they would call a lot of young players, especially the players in the U22 to give them the opportunity to practice in preparations for the 27th SEA Games.
Under the plan, the Vietnamese team will group up on January 23 in Hanoi. It will have a friendly game against South Korean Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dockyard FC on January 31 at the Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi.
