The night of August 26 was already unforgettable for Truong Tuan Viet, born in 2004 and living in Hanoi’s Thanh Oai Ward, as he watched Vietnam face Thailand in a thrilling ASEAN Cup 2026 final. The night ended with Vietnam claiming victory and lifting the coveted trophy.

But it became even more special when thousands of Vietnamese fans poured onto the streets to celebrate. Viet and his bride-to-be, Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu, born in 2003 and from Phu Tho Province, stepped into the jubilant crowds for a wedding photo shoot filled with once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Viet said the couple plan to hold their wedding toward the end of this year. While discussing their photo shoot with the photography team, they were presented with an unusual idea: taking their wedding pictures on the night Vietnam played in the ASEAN Cup 2026 final.

“After talking it over, we agreed on the idea. It was a wonderful opportunity for our personal happiness to become part of the shared joy of the national team’s victory,” Viet said. “When we worked out the details for the wedding shoot, we had a very strong belief that Vietnam would become champions. Even if that hadn’t happened, we still would have happily gone ahead with the photo shoot on such a memorable night.”

The wedding shoot took place around Kim Lien Tunnel in Hanoi and on nearby streets. At around 7:30 p.m., Viet and Kieu arrived with their photography team, dressed as bride and groom. After making their final preparations, they watched the final together at a nearby restaurant.

Throughout the match, Viet and Kieu rode a wave of emotions - suspense, anxiety and then bursts of joy whenever Vietnam’s players found the net. Their photography team captured each of those moments.

When the final whistle blew and victory belonged to Vietnam, the couple embraced, overwhelmed with happiness. They then joined their photography crew and headed into the sea of celebrating supporters to begin their memorable wedding shoot.

“There were so many Vietnamese fans out celebrating. The atmosphere was incredibly lively and festive, unlike anything you see on an ordinary night,” Viet said. “We took our photos around Kim Lien Tunnel. The red flags with yellow stars and the huge crowds behind us made the most beautiful and meaningful backdrop we could have asked for.”

Over nearly two hours of shooting, Viet and Kieu received countless congratulations and good wishes from strangers passing by. Some groups of young people even asked to take photos with the couple as keepsakes. The excitement of the crowds and the sheer joy filling the streets made the Hanoi groom even more exhilarated.

And amid the celebration came another moment Kieu had not been expecting.

“Right there in the middle of the crowd, I got down on one knee and proposed to my girlfriend,” Viet said. “The photography team and I had kept the proposal secret until the very last moment, so she was completely surprised. When she said yes and accepted the ring, I was incredibly happy.”

At around 11:30 p.m., the couple wrapped up their wedding shoot. Even after returning home, Viet said he was still floating on the happiness of everything they had just experienced.

Viet and Kieu had been together for several years before deciding to build a life together. In Kieu, Viet said he found someone he could trust to walk beside him and share the road ahead.

The couple plan to hold their wedding toward the end of 2026.
