At the closing ceremony of the fourth session of the HCMC People’s Council on December 9, Le said the pandemic had hit almost all aspects of life, leading to an unprecedented fall in gross domestic product, supply chain disruptions, labor shortage and affecting the health and lives of local residents, the local media reported.

The city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) this year has been projected to fall, Le added.

With the Delta variant becoming the dominant strain, the pandemic remains an issue of concern, while the newly detected Omicron variant is spreading fast. Therefore, the city called for strict compliance with anti-pandemic regulations.

At the ceremony, Le said the city had passed 25 resolutions on the city’s socioeconomic development next year, including 13 on economy and budget, three on policies, three on culture and education, two on urban planning and four on other issues.

In 2022, the municipal People’s Council will also focus on monitoring the implementation of Resolution 54 on special policies for the city’s development.

It will also monitor the improvement of the healthcare system, investment in medical equipment, administrative reforms, investment environment improvement and support for enterprises.

In addition, it asked the municipal government to effectively conduct plans on socioeconomic development for next year with 20 targets, including a GRDP growth target of 6%-6.5%.

Le also required focusing on the deployment of Resolution 26 on the completion of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area project before 2030, removing difficulties facing enterprises, applying technology in governance and completing the municipal smart operating center.

Furthermore, the city will continue supporting those affected by the pandemic and work out plans to reopen schools in line with the Covid-19 vaccination roadmap.
