The aftermath of a floodgate malfunction in October, 2010 at Ho Ho Power Plant in Ha Tinh Province has not been fully dealt with, and cracks have recently been detected in the dam.

Water is leaking through several parts of the dam, despite efforts to fix it.

Dao Xuan The, director of the plant said the cracks are located at 40-45 metres above the ground. However, he refused to answer questions about the seriousness of the problem and said they have to consult an expert.

This phenomenon is abnormal since the dam is a solid concrete block and was built using modern construction methods.

A leader from Huong Khe District in Ha Tinh Province also confirmed that the leaks were incomprehensible. "This is worrying because there are many households located downstream. We will inspect this issue immediately and ask higher authorities for directives, ensuring people's safety."

Ho Ho Hydropower Plant was built by North Electric Investment and Development JSC I with a total investment of VND257 billion (USD12.3 million). It consists of two turbines which have a capacity of 13MW. Its reservoir can contain 38 million cubic metres. The dam, 103 metres long and 72 metres high, was built by Song Da 2 and Song Da 7 JSC.
