At a meeting to control advertisements on cross-border platforms between the Ministry of Information and Communications and enterprises on June 25, Minister Hung said that these firms should be responsible for the prosperity of the countries in which they do business, which also helps ensure their sustainable development.
The minister said that the Vietnamese Government will continue to employ solutions to force Google, Facebook and the like to comply with the local law.
Vietnam will not welcome cross-border firms that do not comply with Vietnamese law, Hung added.
He called for the cooperation of enterprises and the authorities to manage advertisements on cross-border platforms and the security of social networks.
Also, local network and advertising service providers have to obey the law and must not ignore or cover up violations by foreign partners.
Meanwhile, tech firms should study and launch programs to supervise activities on cross-border platforms.
Domestic enterprises should prioritize posting ads on domestic channels featuring appropriate content.
Nguyen Thanh Lam, head of the Radio and Television Broadcasting Department, under the Ministry of Information and Communications, said that nearly 8,000 video clips with harmful content have been removed from YouTube, as required by the department. However, 55,000 similar clips remain in place.
He claimed Vietnam has the highest number of people making money from YouTube.
Meanwhile, they are allowed to buy ads directly from Google and YouTube without the involvement of domestic advertising agents, causing tax revenue losses for the State.
According to a representative of the Department of Cyber Security and High-tech Crime Prevention, under the Ministry of Public Security, it is hard to reach a consensus with Google on the removal of video clips.
As such, the local competent agencies should enhance control over the content of video clips as most of the content creators are Vietnamese. SGT
