Bus and railway stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have begun to attract larger crowds with less than one week to go before the start of the Lunar New Year holiday, known locally as Tet.
My Dinh, Giap Bat, and Nuoc Ngam, three of the major bus stations in the capital, are packed with returnees in the week before the Tet break.
This year during Tet the number of buses at Nuoc Ngam station is forecast to increase by around 300% to 350% compared to normal days.
Similar scenes are recorded at Giap Bat bus station.
Bus stations expect more passengers will come in hordes over the next couple of days when students return to hometown and workers start their week-long Tet break from February 8, or the 29th day of the last lunar month.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the number of passengers passing through railway stations has increased drastically over recent days as people return to their hometowns to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
A large number of people head back to their hometowns to gather together with their families as Tet draws near, resulting in bustling scenes at Sai Gon railway station, a contrast to the quiet scenes witnessed a few days ago.
Many passengers wait for trains travelling to the central and the Central Highland regions.
Lots of students depart the city as they go back home on January 31.
