A broad range of cultural programmes are being held at the Culture and Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups to mark the start of 2015.
During the first four days of the year, the village management are co-ordinating with authorities of several provinces in the northern mountainous area to introduce traditional dances, songs, games and specialities of local residents.
Visitors to the village will also have an opportunity to meet with the ethnic communities to learn more about their life and customs.
On January 1 in Muong Lay town of Dien Bien province, more than 200 people took part in a boat race on the Son La hydropower plant’s reservoir and other games such as cloth ball throwing and tug-of-war.
Meanwhile in Hanoi comedy and circus programmes to welcome the New Year attracted a wide audience. On this occasion, the organisers awarded New Year gifts to over 500 poor children in Hanoi.
In Ha Long city, the Quang Ninh cultural centre held a programme to perform songs and read poems praising the motherland and the arrival of spring.
In Ho Chi Minh City, notable events to ring in 2015 included a brilliant performance by various circus groups at Gia Dinh Park, a water puppet show at the History Museum and a song and comedy programme at the Cong Nhan Theatre.
