Cultural activities to celebrate UNESCO recognition of Hoi An, My Son

Quang Nam has come up with plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary as World Heritage Sites and the 10th anniversary of Cu Lao Cham’s recognition as a biosphere reserve.

Accordingly, a wide range of activities will be held on the occasion including a host of seminars to review the conservation of Hoi An and My Son over the two decades, outline orientations for preserving and promoting the value of the heritage sites in the future and heighten community responsibility for preservation work.

The celebrations are set to be held at 8pm on September 8 at the temple complex at My Son Sanctuary in Duy Xuyen district.

Some 4,500 domestic and international delegates and locals are expected to participate in these events with artistic performances being the highlight of the ceremony.

In addition, cultural and sports activities will be launched to mark this occasion which would involve the VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup and a photo exhibition displaying 100 sculptures and paintings slated for September 7-15.

Organizers have also assigned localities, associations and businesses to make thorough preparations in a bid to elevate the image of Quang Nam province to both domestic and international visitors aiming to further boost local tourism development and raise the public awareness about the conservation and promotion of heritage values.
