VietNamNet Bridge – The local media has talked a lot about matters related to overseas Vietnamese Che Linh’s shows in the last one month. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has to raise its voice over this case.

Let’s review the development of this case.

The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in early November announced to not grant a license to Bich Ngoc Entertainment Company, to organize Che Linh’s second show in Hanoi in the next six months, because this firm made mistakes in advertising the show.

However, only two days after the Department released this decision, the Performing Art Agency, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, licensed Che Linh’s second show at the National Convention Center, as Bich Ngoc Entertainment Company advertised before. However, the organizers are the Viet Bac Folk Music Theatre and Quyen Gia Binh Co., Ltd.

Under the laws, the Performing Art Agency has the authority to license art shows in Hanoi, but such shows can only be held with the agreement of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Performing Art Agency’s move is disrespectable to the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and raised the public’s concern about management in cultural sector.

After Che Linh’s second show was successfully held in Hanoi, the organizer wanted to bring it to HCM City. However, the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism did not license the show because “it is inappropriate to the city’s current situation.”

The public and the show organizer are waiting for the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s clear explanation that why it refused to license the show.

To Van Dong, Chief of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism cum the Ministry’s spokesperson, said the Ministry’s policy is creating favorable conditions for artists to serve the public. However, artists and show organizers must obey the law.

Dong said that the Ministry has assigned local departments of culture, sports and tourism and the Performing Art Agency different functions. Any agency makes mistakes, it must bear responsibility. Related agencies will have to report the case to the Ministry.

The audience will have to wait for the Ministry’s conclusion of the case. This will be the answer for many things: the disappointment of an overseas Vietnamese singer who has returned to Vietnam to perform after 30 years, and the disappointment of music lovers and unprofessionalism and disorder in managing performing activities in Vietnam.
