A variety of calendars designed for desks and walls, as well as block calendars, are tailored according to customers' orders.

"I'm making a calendar for my three-year-old son, so I have to prepare many photos that have been taken since he was born," Do Thi Hang, 33, said.

"The price for designing and printing a calendar ranges from VND240,000 (about US$11) to VND350,000 ($16), which depends on calendar types and design models," said Nguyen Dan Hung, managing director of iskid Studio, which specialises in art calendars in downtown Ha Noi.

Customers can also ask the studio to take photos and design the calendars. The total price ranges from VND450,000 ($20) to several million (hundreds of dollars).

According to Hung, wall and desk calendars tend to be the most popular. For owners, a personalised calendar has sentimental value.

"We make these calendars to show our love to our three-year-old son," Hang said. "When we see the calendars, we are happy to see our son."

Calendars are also considered a meaningful gift to present to relatives on special occasions, especially during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Hang said her parents do not have many chances to visit her family because they live thousands of kilometers away, and the calendars provide comfort when they start to miss their grandson.

"I was really happy to receive the gift from my daughter," Do Duc Viet, Hang's father said. "I now can see my grandson every day."

Recently, the Ha Noi Pet Rescue has also sold desk calendars that contain images of dogs and cats to raise funds for the organisation.

Established in April 2012, it aims to provide homes and better lives to abandoned cats and dogs through animal-rescue activities and awareness campaigns.

Customers can place an order by calling 0984 225 933 or 0989 289 910 at a cost of VND 75,000 ($3).
