The sixth Da Lat Flower Festival will open on December 29 with a ceremony imbued with culture of the Central Highlands, according to the organising board.

A flower carnival, a space of flowers, a vegetable-flower fair and a science conference on flowers will be the highlights of the biennial festival themed “Da Lat – Multitude of flower colours” which will run through January 2 in Da Lat city, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, said the organising board at a press conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 14.

A vivid exhibition of tea, coffee, wine and other local delicacies will take place on Ho Tung Mau Street. Visitors can taste the city’s flavours while perusing a flower-themed calligraphy, painting and photography displays.

For the first time in the festival's history, there will be a gala night for local flower raisers at Lam Vien Square on January 1, which is dedicated to individuals and agencies involved in developing the local flower industry.

Different from previous events, this year the organising board encourage more involvement of individuals and agencies instead of just local authorities, said Vo Ngoc Hiep, Chairman of the Da Lat People’s Committee, adding that 19 out of 28 programmes in the festival will be carried out by local individuals and businesses.

Da Lat expects to welcome about 500,000 visitors during the festival.

Da Lat opens art bazaar

An art bazaar was opened at top floor of Da Lat market in Lam Dong province on December 13.

The pavilions at the bazaar showcased landscape and portrait embroidery paintings, folk songs and proverbs in photos, a space for embroidery art by domestic and foreign artisans from Thailand, Japan, the US and Canada.

On the same day, a photography exhibition of painter Vo Trinh Bien was opened at Peace Exhibition Center in Da Lat city.

Under a tranquil theme, the exhibition featuring Da Lat’s nature and people introduced 30 his finger art works following style of haft- abstract painting over acrylic material.

Visitors to the exhibition can enjoy and perceive a lyrical abstract painting space.

Vo Trinh Bien is a famous Vietnamese finger-painting artist, and this is the 22nd time that he has organized the exhibition.

Earlier, the painter also introduced his oil finger-paintings to foreign friends in Hong Kong (China) and Australia.

The exhibition is scheduled to last until December 20.
