DevDay 2024, an event for developers held late last week at Duy Tan University, attracted 30 well known speakers from different fields, including AI, blockchain, cloud computing, cybersecurity and semiconductors.

Thach said at the event that under the plan, Da Nang would have at least 5,000 workers in microchip semiconductors, including 1,500 chip designing engineers and 3,500 packaging and testing engineers, which would allow the city to join more deeply into the global semiconductor value chain.

According to Thach, the city in recent years has developed policies to develop the IT industry, applied solutions to remove bottlenecks in infrastructure and the workforce, and improved the business environment to attract investment.

In late 2023, the city established a center on research and training in chip design and AI; organized investment promotion activities; and connected training establishments, domestic and foreign partners to step up development of the semiconductor industry and AI.

The city’s IT industry has been growing well and sustainably in both revenue and output, remaining one of the key business fields of the city. The industry gained revenue of VND36.571 trillion in 2023, up 8.1 percent over the year before, while software exports brought $147.8 million, up 12 percent.

Da Nang’s digital economy makes up 20 percent of its GRDP.

There are 2.3 digital firms per 1,000 people in Da Nang, the second highest level after HCM City and 3 times higher than the country’s average level. There are 53,000 workers in the field in the city.

There are three IT zones in the city, including DaNang Software Park with 2,200 workers, fully occupied; and Da Nang IT Zone with 20,000 workers and FPT Complex with 6,500 workers, which plans to have 10,000 workers by 2025.

The city is going to open Software Park No2 by the end of 2024, which is expected to employ 6,000; and Viettel Software and Hi-tech Building, expected to attract 2,500 IT workers.

IT is one of the five key business fields of the city which are prioritized according to Politburo Resolution No43 dated January 24, 2019 on Da Nang construction and development by 2030.

The resolution says Da Nang needs to complete the building of a smart city that connects the smart city network in Vietnam and ASEAN.
