VietNamNet Bridge – After two explosions, the forest to the west of the Da nang International Airport flared up. The Air force Division 372, which is garrisoned near the airport, sent troops to extinguish the fire.

The fire blazed up at 2m of May 9 in the forest near the Da nang International Airport in the central city of Da nang.

Soldiers of the Air force Division 372 chop off trees and reeds to prevent the fire from spreading further. The professional fire-fighting force was also informed.

Over ten fire trucks and 600 people were mobilized to control the fire after nearly two hours. The area of forest that was burnt down has not been announced yet. Fire-fighters still guarded the forest last night in case the fire blazes up again.

Local authorities said that based on the two explosions before the fire, it was highly possible that the fire was caused by exploded phosphorous bullets that left from the Vietnam War.

This is the second forest fire in Da nang city in May. On May 2, a fire occurred at the Nam Hai Van specialized forest in Lien Chieu district. After over ten hours, over 1,000 people extinguished the fire but 100 hectares of forest was burnt down. The fire was caused by phosphorous bullets and hot weather.
