Argentinean striker Gaston Merlo and Croatian midfielder Milorad Janjus each scored in the second half to help Da Nang edge out hosts Ha Noi T&T 2-1 at Hang Day stadium in Ha Noi.

Midfielder Nguyen Van Quyet scored a late consolation goal for Ha Noi T&T in the 90th minute.

Three points from this crucial encounter pushed Da Nang into top spot with 25 points as Ha Noi T&T fell to fourth place, still on 23 points.

Elsewhere, Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) ended their six-game winless run as the 2011 champions thrashed bottom-ranked Dong Tam Long An 8-0 at Vinh stadium.

SLNA were inspired by four goals from striker Le Cong Vinh, while midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang scored a double and defender Nguyen Quang Tinh and striker Kevin Bryan grabbed one apiece.

Nghe An now have 25 points but rank second behind Da Nang, who have a better head-to-head record. Long An remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with only 11 points.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai returned to winning ways after a run of four games without success as Ganiyu Bolaji Oseni, Le Hoang Thien and Evaldo Goncaves each scored one goal to see off hosts Kien Giang 3-0 at Rach Gia stadium in Kien Giang province.

The win took Gia Lai to third place on 24 points while Kien Giang slipped to 11th place after three successive losses.

Dong Nai were restricted to a point from a goalless draw with Xuan Thanh Sai Gon at their home ground of Bien Hoa to remain in eighth place on 17 points. Xuan Thanh edged up to sixth place with 19 points.

In the early match on Saturday, Le Van Tan's last minute strike salvaged a point for hosts Hai Phong in their 1-1 draw with visitors Thanh Hoa, who were put ahead by Cheikh Abass Dieng. Hai Phong fell to seventh while Thanh Hoa stayed in fifth position.
