The project will be located in Hai Van Ward, Da Nang.

Da Nang has approved an investment of more than VND 45 trillion (approx. USD 1.76 billion) to build Lien Chieu container port, with an expected capacity of 5.7 million TEUs per year. The port is poised to become a major international cargo transshipment hub for Central Vietnam.

The project will be located in Hai Van Ward, covering approximately 172 hectares (including 146 hectares of land and nearly 26 hectares of water in front of the wharf), with a total designed capacity of around 5.7 million TEUs annually, equivalent to 74 million tons. In the first phase through 2030, capacity is projected to reach between 14.25 and 36.3 million tons per year.

Under the master plan, the port will feature eight container terminals with a total berth length of 2,750 meters, capable of accommodating vessels up to 18,000 TEUs. Additionally, the project will include a barge berth for vessels up to 5,000 tons, facilitating cargo consolidation and distribution while reducing road congestion and logistics costs.

The port’s rear logistics area will be equipped with container yards, inspection zones, stuffing and unstuffing areas, operational offices, repair workshops, and supporting infrastructure. Notably, a cargo staging area will be directly connected to the national railway network, ensuring seamless multimodal transport.

The total estimated investment is VND 45.268 trillion (approx. USD 1.76 billion), including VND 9.053 trillion (approx. USD 351.3 million) in equity capital, with the remainder to be mobilized through financial institutions. The project is granted a 50-year operating term starting from the date of land or sea area allocation.

Implementation is expected to begin in Q4 2025 and continue through Q1 2036. In Phase 1 (2025-2028), the investor will build and operate at least two terminals, along with the port’s logistics infrastructure and auxiliary works, laying the foundation for further expansion in subsequent phases.

The project aims to develop a fully integrated container port with supporting infrastructure meeting green port and international transshipment standards. It aligns with Vietnam's seaport development strategy through 2030, with a vision toward 2050.

Lien Chieu port comprises two components. Component A involves shared infrastructure with an investment of more than VND 3.4 trillion (approx. USD 132 million), funded by the central and municipal budgets. It began construction in late 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Component B will seek private investment for the construction of the remaining port facilities.
