Da Nang officials made the request at a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Minister Nguyen Quan on August 18.

The central city also proposed that the ministry provide financial help to the building of a scientific-technological information centre for the central region and a national technology trading floor.

Minister Nguyen Quan spoke highly of Da Nang’s achievements in science and technology and promised to give support to the city regarding the proposed projects.

He also said the ministry will help Da Nang with the building of a regional-level radiation observation and warning station as well as with the transfer and application of science and technology advancement in rural and mountainous areas.

The minister recommended the city continue allocating money to science and technology projects and quality staff training to make Da Nang the science and technology centre of the Central and Central Highlands region.

Can Tho to issue operation regulations for technology incubator

Can Tho will issue regulations on the operations of the Vietnam – Republic of Korea industrial technology incubator in the city, said Nguyen Minh Toai, Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Commerce.

Under the regulations, projects have to satisfy selection criteria to be accepted at the incubator, technology projects by individuals and organisations must sign contracts before entering the park and projects must go through an examination council to be judged as completed.

The department said the facility will be managed by its Incubator Development Centre.

Outcomes of technology projects completed in the incubator will be applied at the O Mon Industrial Park towards commercialisation.

The Vietnam-RoK industrial technology incubator project started in the city at the end of 2013.

The 21.13-million USD project, paid for by the RoK side through non-refundable assistance, aims to step up research and development of the city’s major industries, including agricultural and aquatic product processing and agriculture-served mechanics.

Once finished, the project will support businesses based in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta to innovate their existing technologies and access better ones as well as increase the quality of products and their operational effectiveness.
