The central city of Da Nang will host a cherry festival in April, after Japan's Cherry Association donated 100 cherry trees for a pilot plantation at the city's Asia Park.
It is the first cherry festival to be held in the city as a spring tourist attraction.
The association also donated 400 cherry trees to plant at the Ba Na Hills Mountain resort in 2011.
According to Japanese experts, Ba Na Hills, located at 1,500m above sea level, is a suitable locale for cherry trees to grow well and blossom in April.
The association will also present the city with 500 cherry trees to grow at the Da Nang-Japan Cultural Exchange Centre in Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) in July, in celebration of the Viet Nam-Japan Culture Exchange Festival.
Tickets to the annual Cherry Festival are free for local residents and tourists.
