VietNamNet Bridge – The central city of Da nang will show its objection against China’s establishment of the so-called “Sansha city” and its invitation for bids for nine lots in the East Sea, in a resolution of the city People’s Council, said Da nang’s Party Secretary and Chairman Nguyen Ba Thanh.

At the 4th People’s Council meeting of Da nang city on July 3, some deputies spoke about the tension in the East Sea and China’s recent moves, for example the establishment of “Sansha city” and offering invitation for bids for nine lots in the waters of Vietnam.

“The Da nang People’s Council needs to oppose China’s acts in its resolution which will be released on the afternoon of July 3,” said deputy Thai Thanh Hung.

At the meeting, Da nang’s Party Secretary and Chairman Nguyen Ba Thanh once again confirmed that Hoang Sa Archipelago (Paracel Islands) belongs to Da nang city of Vietnam. The city has established the People’s Committee of Hoang Sa Island District and struggled for the sovereignty over Hoang Sa.

Thanh said that China offered invitation for bids for lots on Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone and countries that respect Vietnam’s sovereignty would not participate in the bids.

“In 2008, the Da nang people raised its voice over the sovereignty over Hoang Sa Archipelago. This time the city will again oppose China’s establishment of “Sansha city” and invitation for bids in lots in Vietnam’s sea in the People’s Council’s resolution,” Thanh stressed.

Earlier, leaders of the central province of Khanh Hoa and Da Nang city voiced their objection to China’s recent approval of the establishment of the so-called “Sansha city” that covers Vietnam's Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.

Chairman of Khanh Hoa province’s People’s Committee, Nguyen Chien Thang said Spratly is an integral part of Vietnam’s territory and under management of Khanh Hoa province.

He added the people and authorities of Khanh Hoa province is discontented with China’s establishment of Sansha city in Truong Sa archipelago. The decision seriously violates Vietnam’s sovereignty and has no legal basis. The province strongly protests this move and asked China to stop its decision and any activity that harm the relations and friendship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Van Huu Chien, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Da Nang city which administers Hoang Sa archipelago, voiced opposition to China’s decision, which he said is unreasonable and has no legal basis.

The meeting of Da nang People’s Council was held on July 3-4.
