Dak Glei district in the central highlands province of Kon Tum successfully organized a tourism, trade and investment connection forum on December 9, attracting many businesses, cooperatives, and business households to learn about investment opportunities in the area.

Dak Glei is a mountainous border district located in the north of Kon Tum province, with a natural area of 149,364.4 hectares, an 119,726km border with Xan Xay district (Attapeu province) and Dak Chung district (Sekong province) of Lao.

Ideal conditions to attract investment in agriculture

Blessed by nature in terms of soil and climate conditions, Dak Glei district has many potentials and advantages in terms of land, water and human resources as well as suitable climatic conditions for agricultural production development, especially coffee, Ngoc Linh ginseng, and macadamia. The large and diverse raw material area is an advantage for Dak Glei district to attract investment in the stages of production, purchasing, processing and deep processing of agricultural products.

Many enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the area have focused on agricultural production and business, generating large revenues and profits and thereby, helping people in remote areas and ethnic minority areas in Dak Glei district sell their products, have jobs and stable income, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction and promoting socio-economic development.

In addition, Dak Glei district is promoting investment attraction in livestock, focusing on developing buffalo and cow herds in the border communes of Dak Blo and Dak Nhoong; developing pig farms using new technology in Dak Man, Dak Long, Dak Blo, Dak Mon, Xop, Dak Choong and Dak Kroong communes.

Dak Glei district is also a place with favourable conditions for exploiting and developing aquaculture of high economic value aquatic products. Currently, the exploitation and farming of wild snakehead fish is implemented in Dak Choong commune, bringing high economic efficiency. Dak Man, Muong Hoong, Ngoc Linh communes have cold water sources suitable for investing in the development of cold water fish such as sturgeon and tilapia.

Abundant potential for developing renewable energy

Dak Glei also has great potential for hydropower, wind power, and solar power. There are 19 hydroelectric projects planned with a total capacity of 195.6 MW in the district. Of which, Dak Pru 1 Hydropower Project began operation in December 2018; Dak Mi hydroelectric project (Dak Choong commune) has reached about 60% construction workload, expected to be completed and generate electricity by the end of 2024; 14 projects have had policies to survey and invest in hydropower with a total capacity of 173.6 MW and 3 projects have not had investment policies with a capacity of 15 MW.

Currently, Dak Glei district has 5 wind power projects (1 project has been basically completed, and the remaining projects are in the process of surveying and establishing procedures to apply for investment policies); 1 biomass power project is under survey. In addition, Dak Glei Electricity Agency has installed 29 rooftop solar power systems for customers in need, contributing to increasing the proportion of exploitation and use of renewable energy in the district.

Calling for investment to make tourism a key economic sector

Dak Glei has many attractive natural landscapes, cultural and historical relics to develop eco-tourism, tourism associated with culture, history, landscapes, community, agriculture, rural areas, creating into unique and locally specific tourism products. The district has a system of majestic waterfalls such as Dak Che waterfall (Dak Man commune), Dak Ruoi waterfall (Dak Glei town), Dak Long waterfall (Dak Long commune). It also has one nationally ranked relic (To Huu Prison).

Dak Glei district is promoting tourism, inviting investment with the goal of striving to make tourism a key economic sector by 2030 to create many new jobs and promote development of other fields and to become an attractive tourist destination of Kon Tum province. The local authorites currently facilitates the Ecogreen Phu Quoc Joint Stock Company in surveying and exploring investment in the project named "Dak Long ecological reserve complex".

Dak Glei's successful organization of the Tourism, Trade and Investment Connection Forum on December 9 is a step forward to attract many businesses, cooperatives, and business households to participate in exploring opportunities and investment cooperation in the area.
