The 27-year-old was hiking in Chư Yang Sin National Park on the morning of March 11 when he lost his footing while washing his hands and fell into the water.

Despite the efforts of his friends who tried to pull him to safety, the man was swept away by strong currents and later that afternoon, his body was recovered from Xanh stream.

Police Bureau of Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue in Đắk Lắk said there had been an increase in spontaneous adventure tours particularly among young people.

But they are warning that travelling without a qualified guide, or experts who know the area, increase the risks of accident.

Police say people should take extra care when exploring national parks, and should only do so with licensed tour companies.

The victim has only been identified by the authorities as N.T.Q. He is from Thanh Hóa but had been living and working in HCM City. — VNS
