The dike at My Khe Beach faces serious erosion.

Lots of waste is seen on the beach.

Warning boards about erosion have been placed at the site.

The park along the beach was left in a mess after the flood water receded.

The pavement was badly damaged.

Many visitors were surprised when visiting Danang’s beaches on Monday morning. "I couldn't imagine that Danang’s beautiful beaches would be so badly damaged," a visitor at My Khe beach on October 17 said.

At the beachside Bien Dong Park in Son Tra District, a large hole of over 15 metres in length appeared following the flood. The dike here was also heavily damaged. Rubbish was strewn all over the site.

Nguyen Duc Vu, head of the Da Nang Tourism Beaches and Son Tra Peninsula Management Board, said that beaches along the Vo Nguyen Giap-Hoang Sa streets have faced serious erosion after the flood occurred last weekend. "These areas have become dangerous traps for passers-by," he said. "We've installed warning signs to prevent possible accidents. Repair work is also underway."

Storm Sonca caused the worst flooding to hit Danang in a decade, with many neighbouring central and central highlands localities inundated on Friday night. After weakening from a tropical storm to a low tropical pressure system, Sonca dumped up to 800mm of rain in many areas. Danang recorded nearly 600mm of rain on Friday night, leaving most of the city under water. In some areas metre deep flood waters isolated communities.
