Danang municipal government has decided to invest VND45 billion (over $2 million) on upgrading and restoring the Museum of Cham Sculpture next year.

The upgrading is aimed at restoring and rearranging displays in order to ensure enough space for exhibitions, events and preservation as well as improved services in order to better serve visitors and researchers.
The museum currently encompasses two major blocks. The exhibition house which was built during the 1915-1936 period, and an extension which was added in 2002. The French period building will be preserved during the upgrade.
The museum is Vietnam’s primary venue for the display of Cham sculpture in Vietnam.

The Museum of Cham Sculpture was built by the French in order to collect, preserve and exhibit sculptures of the Kingdom of Champa found at Cham towers and bastions in the central coastal provinces from Ha Tinh to Binh Thuan Provinces as well as in the Central Highlands region.
The museum currently houses nearly 2,000 exhibits, 288 of which are from My Son, Tra Kieu, Dong Duong, Thap Mam, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Kon Tum. Around 187 other exhibits are being exhibited outdoors and 1,200 others remain in storage..
The museum is one of the country’s top 12 museums.
