VietNamNet Bridge – Dao Thinh bronze jar is one of 104 natural treasures of Vietnam. It is now preserved at the National History Museum in Hanoi.

Why is Dao Thinh bronze jar recognized as a natural treasure of Vietnam?

The Dao Thinh bronze jar of 98 cm tall, dating back 2000-2500 ago, belongs to the Dong Son Civilization. The cylindrical jar is decorated with the sun pattern in the middle, surrounded by 11 circles of motifs. On the lid are four pairs of statues, featuring couples having sex.

The Dao Thinh bronze jar has a message of the past for future generations about life and aspirations as well as the proliferation of humans and wet rice agriculture.

In addition to the Dong Son bronze drum, the Dao Thinh bronze jar is the largest size of artifactever unearthed in Vietnam.

Discovered by a resident of Dao Thinh village, in Van Chan district, Yen Bai Province, it was brought to the museum in 1961.

This object reflects the high technical artistry of bronze-casting, especially of figurines (there are a couple of figurines on the jar lid). It also reflects the development of agriculture as well as burial customs of the ancient Viet.
