VietNamNet Bridge - Officials from China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed a set of guidelines regarding cooperation in disputed areas of the East Sea.
ASEAN will take up the rising tension in the resource-rich East Sea when the group sits with leaders of other countries to discuss regional security issues, said Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN secretary-general.
Given the nationalist sentiment underlying all parties’ claims in the East Sea, future incidents would be extraordinarily difficult to de-escalate.
In the East Sea, China is playing billiards, while America is playing some version of Capture the Flag.
