VietNamNet Bridge – Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung confirmed that investors of transport projects in HCM City must bear responsibility for “death” holes on roads.

Chair of HCM City People’s Council, National Assembly deputy Pham Phuong Thao questioned Dung about 42 holes that have appeared in HCM City’s roads since July, which are very dangerous for people.

Thao pointed out four reasons: projects don’t meet technical standards, causing holes, weak foundations and the overconsumption of underground water, downgrading but no of replacement of infrastructure works, and overload in state management.

She said roads in HCM City are managed by several agencies. The construction department is responsible for building and repairing roads. The transport department is in charge of managing transportation activities. Construction inspectors are assigned to deal with violations related to bridge and road construction.

Minister Dung said the Transport Ministry doesn’t invest in any works on HCM City’s roads. HCM City People’s Committee is the investor of all projects inside the city so it has to take responsibility for “death” holes.

Dung said he had sent officials to HCM City to cooperate with the local authorities to solve the problem.

He also said that his ministry will discuss overlap in road management with the Ministry of Construction
