At least 35 people were killed and over 200 others injured in the train derailment which took place Sunday noon in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, reported Press Trust of India.

This is the worst train accident so far this year in India.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Witnesses said when the train was running at full speed, there were sparks on the tracks.
In June last year, over 200 people were killed when a passenger train was hit by a cargo train in the eastern state of West Bengal.
India has one of the largest but old railway networks in the world.
