Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh valued the United Nations’ support for Vietnam’s preparation and participation in UN peace-keeping activities during his meeting with UN Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous in Hanoi on June 9.

Vietnam will send officers, military medical and engineering units to UN missions in the coming time, he said.

Vinh proposed the UN provide training materials and experts in peace-keeping activities for Vietnam.

The UN official lauded Vietnam’s joining in peace-keeping operations in South Sudan and the Central African Republic, and affirmed the UN’s support for the country’s participation in peace-keeping activities as well as for the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre.

Vietnam’s presence has showed the country’s responsibility and determination in taking part in the UN’s peace-keeping operations, Herve Ladsous said.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed orientation for future cooperation in the field between Vietnam and the UN.
