The Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency on January 29 decided to launch criminal proceedings against He, former chairman and former general director of Thai Son JSC on a charge of “abusing position and power to influence others for personal gain”, stipulated in Article 358 of the Criminal Code 2015, reportedly for his responsibilities in the wrongdoing-riddled VND1.9 trillion (nearly US$92 million) Build-Transfer-Operate (BOT) project Viet Tri bridge in Hanoi.

In July last year, Dinh Ngoc He was already sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Central Military Court for “abusing position and power while performing official duties”, and another two years for “using falsified documents of agencies and organisations”.

The Central Military Court upheld the verdict at a court of appeals in November.
