The tackle was only deemed a yellow card during the game, but V.League officials have reviewed the foul and imposed the ban.

The late challenge came towards the end of the match when Hai jumped in with both feet on Tran Van Kien.

The retrospective ban came along with a fine of VND20 million (US$860).

Match referee Tran Dinh Thinh, who thought the challenge was only worthy of a yellow card warning, has also received a temporary ban.

Even though there have only been three games so far in the competition, this is the second time Hai has been banned.

Hai is no stranger to controversy. In 2015 he was banned for six months and asked to pay VND800 million ($34,400) for medical bills for SHB Da Nang’s midfielder Tran Anh Khoa after the challenge broke his leg and forced Khoa to retire.
