On May 20, the police of Nam Tra My district arrested Ho Van Huynh, 27, deputy police chief of Tra Van commune, on charges of murder and intentional causing injury to others.

Witnesses said that at about 3.30pm on May 20, Ho Van Huynh drank with some local officials at a restaurant in the commune.

While drinking, conflicts happened between Huynh and some people in his group.

Being dissuading by other people, Huynh left the restaurant to go home. He then came back to the restaurant, with a knife and continued quarrelling with Mr. Ho Van Tha, 26, an officer of Tra Van Commune.

Huynh suddenly pulled the knife to stab into Tha’s face and neck.

Mr. Dinh Hoang Nha, Chair of the Tra Van Commune Farmers’ Union and a local man named Ho Van Chinh discouraged Huynh. They were immediately stabbed and seriously wounded. The victims were all taken to the hospital.

However, due to the severe injuries, Tha died on the way to the hospital.
