This has become an annual tradition for Conan fans, with each July bringing a new installment to the big screen.
The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 28th movie in the iconic Detective Conan series, has not only lived up to fan expectations but is now officially one of the strongest box office debuts in Vietnam’s animation history.
At the heart of this latest installment is the return of the Nagano police trio, led by Inspector Yamato Kansuke, who continues to suffer from trauma linked to the loss of his eye in a tragic avalanche ten months prior.
Haunted by flashbacks and unresolved memories, Kansuke's investigation becomes deeply personal as he seeks to unearth the truth behind the attack.
Alongside this trio, the movie also marks a spotlight moment for the fan-favorite "sleeping detective" Kogoro Mori, who, unlike his usual comedic pass-outs, takes an active and pivotal role in solving the case this time.
The film's success in Vietnam mirrors its blockbuster performance in Japan, where it has surpassed 14.1 billion yen (approximately 88 million USD) at the box office, becoming Japan’s highest-grossing film of 2025 so far.
It is now the second highest-grossing film in the Detective Conan franchise, and the third consecutive Conan movie to cross the 10-billion yen mark.
In Vietnam, Movie 28 dominated the entire market during its preview days, grossing over 48 billion VND from 8,826 screenings and more than 500,000 tickets sold. In comparison, The Smurfs movie took a distant second with only 4.4 billion VND, while Superman placed third with 3.48 billion VND added over the weekend, bringing its 10-day total in Vietnam to 21 billion VND.
The Sugarcane Mill Massacre and Jurassic World: Rebirth rounded out the top five, earning 2.5 billion VND and 1.7 billion VND respectively over the weekend. The latter has now crossed the 41.5 billion VND mark in Vietnam.
