Do Viet Thang, deputy director of the Center for Information Technology and Cybersecurity Monitoring

Netpoleon Technology Day 2022 was organized late last week in Hanoi with the theme of adapting to digital transformation. This was Netpoleon’s biggest annual technology event, which gathers leading security and networking solutions.

Digital transformation offers many opportunities to businesses and organizations, but also poses threats to IT systems, including APT and DDoS attacks, and data losses. Thus, equipment for security systems is becoming more urgent than ever.

Do Viet Thang, deputy director of the Center for Information Technology and Cybersecurity Monitoring under a Government Committee, said that digital transformation progress increases security risks.

Cybercriminals want to exploit the value of data through theft, fraud, blackmail and other types of cyberattacks. This can cause organizations to get stuck during the digital transformation process, or even cause transformation to fail.

Thang stressed that speed is one of the major goals of digital transformation. The hurry in transforming may lead to the skipping of necessary security control.

Identifying risks and quantifying possible impacts are becoming more difficult when involved parties are absent in the early stages of digital transformation.

Also, an IBM study found that rushing to perform digital transformation without thorough calculations will increase the risk of data breaches to 72 percent, and the risk of cyberattacks and threats to valuable assets by 65 percent.

With digital transformation, the scope of hackers’ attacks is expanding. The transformation process helps digitize production, business and information, while the number of new network access points also increases. These are opportunities for cybercrime to develop.

Thang believes that digital transformation is both an opportunity and challenge, requiring rapid adaptation. A detailed and clear strategy, with consideration of security solutions, will help businesses minimize risks and succeed in their transformation process.

According to the expert, there are seven core matters in security and information safety that affect digital transformation, including data security; app security; cloud computing security; artificial intelligence (AI); identification administration and access; digital infrastructure security, and reliance on third parties in digital transformation which leads to the need to ensure safety for supply chains.

To succeed, organizations need to be aware of digital transformation, risks and cybersecurity.
