Cars will have to be washed before entering Hanoi city centre

The news was announced during the conference with theme Air Quality Monitoring and Management in Hanoi: Experience, Challenges, and Future Directions.

"We have plans to build automatic car washes on streets leading to the city centre. The funding will come from the private sector," Dong said.

In order to prevent air pollution, Hanoi authorities are simultaneously carrying out a number of plans including planting a million trees, investing in more rubbish trucks and implementing stricter regulations over construction trucks, especially those carrying construction materials without covers.

In the most recent move, Hanoi authorities will install automatic car wash stations to limit the amount of dust in the inner city.

Previously, a number of car wash stations were also set up in Tu Liem District but the results were poor.
