On October 7, social media buzzed with the news that a disabled man selling lottery tickets in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City, had won 11 special lottery tickets, earning him a total prize of VND 22 billion ($900,000).

The heartwarming story spread quickly online, with many people offering congratulations and praising the man for his good fortune.

Ly Sang, a 48-year-old lottery agent in Hoc Mon, confirmed that the man had won 11 special tickets from the Lam Dong Provincial Lottery Company, with a total prize of approximately VND 22 billion, before tax.

The lucky man, around 50 years old, hails from the Mekong Delta and has a leg disability. For over two years, he has been collecting lottery tickets from Sang’s agency and selling them in the Hoc Mon and Duc Hoa districts.

“He rents a small room in My Hanh Nam commune, Duc Hoa district. I’ve heard that he lives alone, with no wife or children,” said Sang. On the night of October 6, the man came to Sang’s office to confirm his 11 winning tickets. After verifying his tickets, the man generously gave one to a friend who had accompanied him.

The man entrusted Sang with the remaining 10 tickets and arranged to return the next morning to claim his prize.

When Sang asked why the man trusted him so much, the man replied, "I know you're not the kind of person who would cheat me. We’ve known each other for over two years now."

Despite this, Sang still wrote out a receipt as a guarantee for the man’s peace of mind. On the morning of October 7, the man and Sang went to the bank together, where the man opened an ATM account and received his winnings.

After collecting his prize, the man returned to his rented room, sharing his fortune by giving around VND 5 million to each of the fellow lottery sellers he passed along the way. He also distributed some money to his neighbors before packing his belongings and heading back to his hometown.

Sang mentioned that while his agency has had several winners in the past, none have been as well-known as this one.

For privacy reasons, Sang did not disclose the man’s identity but confirmed that this jackpot win had brought immense joy to everyone who knew him.

Nguyen Thuy Loan, a 30-year-old resident of Hoc Mon, shared her joy for the man: “I see him selling tickets every day at the market, always out in the sun. Fortunately, he has a friend who also sells tickets and helps him get around. I heard he gave one of his winning tickets to his friend without a second thought. His generosity shows that he deserves even more good fortune in life.”
